Day One, Take Off

Monday, May 16, 2011, Home. I began a journey with my three children. It is one I have been thinking on for almost 9 years. The idea was planted in me about the time my husband and I decided to homeschool our first child, Molly. She was just entering kindergarten, and the possibilities of what lie ahead for us was exciting and overwhelming to me.

When I opened the door to homeschooling, it was like opening the door into another universe. The options, the curriculums, the resoursces, the excitment was beyond comprehension, but yet, the seed that was planted was tugging at my very being. Because I homeschool I can...?

I knew there were two things I wanted to do when homeschooling. One take extended, educational trips with my children. Instead of reading from books about distant lands, I wanted to take my children "There" , so that they could see it, touch it, smell it, hear the surronding sounds and taste the culture.

Two, I wanted to really have the chance to teach my children God's Word. Without rush and interruption of "things that must be done and take priority."

This year is my year to do that. Spend it in God's Word. There have been distraactions and lack of confidence to begin such a journey, but this is the year...or 144 days, to take the journey.

Monday, May 16 was the jumping off point. After a great inside picnic, something that homeschoolers can do on a Monday afternoon, I opened the Bible, told the kids we were going to spend the next few months learning from God's Word.

Here is the plan:

Read 12 pages a day, make a timeline, and family tree, beginning with God. Learn science, reading, literature, history, geography and language from these scriptures of our Lord's. Memorize scriptures from his Word, learn how to live with people, and get a grasp of the power of God in our lives.

I know you have looked to see that the "3 R's" were met, well, math we will do from the Bible, i.e., the demensions of the Ark, but will also follow a traditional math book.

How will it turn out? How will our lives change? Where will be in 144 days?
